Pradeep K. Khosla (born March 13, 1957 in Mumbai ) is an Indian - American computer scientist and electrical engineer.

Khosla studied at the Indian Institute of Technology in Kharagpur with a bachelor's degree in 1980. He then worked at Tata Consulting Engineers and Siemens on real-time control systems. He then continued his studies at Carnegie Mellon University , where he received his master's degree in 1984 and his doctorate in 1986. There he became an assistant professor and later a professor. In 2008 he became a University Professor . He was the director of Carnegie Mellon CyLab and the Institute for Complex Engineered Systems (ICES). In 2004 he became Dean of the Carnegie Institute of Technology and in 2012 Chancellor of the University of California, San Diego .

From 1994 to 1996 he was on leave from the university as program manager of the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) for real-time systems, Internet-enabled software architecture, intelligent systems and distributed systems.

He deals with robotics and real-time control systems, reconfigurable real-time control software. He also worked as a consultant for companies and venture capital companies as well as startups.

In 2001 Khosla received the W. Wallace McDowell Award . He is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science , the Indian Academy of Engineering, the Indian Academy of Science, and the National Academy of Engineering . He received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers and the 2012 Light of India Award . In 2017 he was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
