The Mae Nam Pran Buri ( Thai แม่น้ำ ปราณบุรี ), also Mae Nam Pran or just Pranburi , is a river on the Malay Peninsula . It flows through the Thai province of Prachual Khiri Khan .
The Mae Nam Pran Buri has its origin in the southern part of the Kaeng Krachan National Park . It has a water catchment area of around 2000 km² , and after around 130 kilometers it flows into the Gulf of Thailand . The only major settlement on the river is the city of Pran Buri .
Pranburi Dam
The Pran Buri Dam ( ⊙ ) was built from 1967 to 1982 to secure the lowlands against the regularly occurring floods and to obtain reliable irrigation of the fields. The dam is 42 meters high and around 1.5 kilometers long and provides an artificial lake of 29 km² with around 420 million m³ of water.
The Pran Buri forest reserve lies at the mouth .
