Pranzo is a fraction of the municipality ( comune ) Tenno in Trentino in the autonomous region of Trentino-Alto Adige .
geography
Pranzo is located about 45 kilometers west-southwest of Trento at an altitude of 463 mslm in the northwestern hinterland of Lake Garda on the eastern foothills of Monte S. Martino ( 1075 m slm ).
Pranzo is the only place belonging to the municipality of Tenno, which lies on the orographic right side of the valley of the Valle di Magnone. It is made up of small groups of houses that are laid out on several terraces. The area around Pranzo is characterized by extensive chestnut groves , for which Pranzo is traditionally known.
history
Pranzo was first mentioned in a document in 771. In the 13th century the place formed an independent municipality. The parish church consecrated to St. Leonhard was first mentioned in the 14th century, even if its origins are further back. The three-aisled church today goes back to a new building from 1911. In 1929 Pranzo was attached to the municipality of Tenno.
Legends
According to legend, the place name Pranzo (German lunch) reminds of the origin of Lake Tenno . An old settlement is said to have been located on the site of the lake, which, due to its blasphemous inhabitants, disappeared into the mass of water from which the lake was formed in a catastrophe conjured up by God as a punishment at noon. The few survivors are said to have built the place Pranzo in memory of this event.
