Prashanta Nanda (born May 2, 1947 in Cuttack ) is an Indian film actor, director and producer of the Oriya film . He has also appeared as a screenwriter, songwriter and playback singer. For the Bharatiya Janata Party he was Minister of State in Orissa .

Life

His film career began in the early 1960s with the Prabhat Mukherjee films Dasyu Ratnakara and Nua Bou . In Mrinal Sens's only Oriya film, Matir Manisha (German performance title Two Brothers ), he played the leading role and gained notoriety. In addition to his acting career, he studied art and law. With Jharana Das as a partner, Nanda was successful in the musical melodrama Adina Megha (1970). Since Bandhan (1969) he has appeared in front of the camera several times for the director Nitai Palit .

In 1975 Prashanta Nanda Byomkesh produced , wrote the screenplay, and also starred Tripathi's film Mamata . He made his directorial debut the following year with Shehsha Shrabana , only the second color film from Orissa. The film is about a fisherman who rescues a Brahmaness from a flood and causes problems in his village because of the difference in castes when he takes her into his hut. Until the mid-1990s, Nanda brought out at least one film a year. These included individual Hindi films and bilingual versions in Oriya and Bengali .

Nanda was involved in party politics in the BJP in Orissa. He was one of the party's deputy chairmen and briefly held the office of Minister of State. After disputes over the political dominance of the Orissan Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik ( Biju Janata Dal ) over the coalition party, he left it in August 2007. Nanda is now active in the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and its chairman in Orissa.
