The Praxis-HAK Völkermarkt (actually Federal Trade Academy and Federal Trade School Völkermarkt ) is a vocational secondary school in the district capital Völkermarkt in Carinthia , which has existed since 1973 .

history

In September 1973, at the endeavor of the district school inspector Josef Mairitsch, four business school classes were set up as so-called “dislocated classes” of the Federal Commercial Academy and Commercial School II Klagenfurt under the direction of Josef Maderner . They were housed in the building of the vocational school on Völkermarkter Hauptplatz, but the business school and from this point on also the business academy moved the following year to the current premises in the middle school, which was built between 1898 and 1900 in the late historical style, which was previously the main school from 1927 and between 1958 and 1970 the primary school and the grammar school founded in 1965. From 1975 the school had the status of an expositur, with September 1978 it became independent. In the same school year, 22 candidates took the final exam for the first time at the BHAK Völkermarkt. In March 1983 the symbolic handover of the keys for the new building by Governor Leopold Wagner took place.

Since the introduction of the training company in 1994, a number of steps have been taken towards a modern and practical training, which was also expressed in a school experiment on in-depth practice that has now become the norm across Austria. As a result, the name Praxis-HAK Völkermarkt has been publicly used since 2009. In 2015, the premises in the former Völkermarkter Citizens' School were modernized, and since then there has been constant investment in the technical infrastructure and class equipment.

School profile

The Praxis-HAK Völkermarkt is the only vocational high school in the district currently offering two training courses: the three-year commercial school with a focus on customer orientation and sales (sales management) and the five-year commercial academy. With the 2020/21 school year, the start-up class and the smart learning class will replace the previous two class types and take into account the changed requirements of digital transformation and the focus on practical training. With controlling, business practice and taxes , management for marketing, tourism and events as well as management for multimedia and information technology , the commercial academy offers three training focuses that come into play from the third year onwards.

In particular through regional partnerships and Erasmus + initiatives, the students complete internships in Germany and abroad and work regularly in workshops with experts from relevant professional fields. The philosophy of well-founded practical relevance is also applied in the school trial of the shortened school year with extended compulsory practice in the fourth year.

In addition, striving for contemporary forms of teaching and learning in the context of digital transformation is of particular importance within the school concept. The school has been certified as a COOL school (COoperative Open Learning) since 2005/06 and as an eCool school since 2019/20. After the - also leading - participation in regional and national initiatives such as eLC (eLearning Cluster) and eLSA (eLearning in everyday school life), the Praxis-HAK Völkermarkt has been one of Austria's certified eEducation.Expert.Schools since the school year 2016/17. In this context, the school has received several awards, including first place in the nationwide competition "How we will learn with digital media in the future" in 2017 and the state prize of the expert jury at the Starke Schools Award 2018.
