Premio Hammett
The Premio Hammett ( Premio Hammet a la mejor novela negra en español ; not to be confused with the North American Hammett Prize ) is a Spanish literary prize that has been awarded to the best Spanish-language detective novel published last year since 1988 . It is awarded every year in July by the Asociación Internacional de Escritores Policíacos (AIEP), the international association of crime writers , at the week-long Semana Negra (English: "Black Week" ), a literary festival that takes place in Gijón , Spain . The award was named after Dashiell Hammett (1894–1961), who is one of the pioneers of American hard-boiled crime.
Award winners
Spanish crime writers were most frequently awarded the Premio Hammett (16 victories, including authors with dual nationalities), followed by their colleagues from Argentina (11), Mexico (8) and Cuba (5). The most successful authors are the Spaniard Paco Ignacio Taibo II , who lives in Mexico, and his compatriot Andreu Martín , who each won the prize three times.
