The EG 502 to EG 505 Halle were a series of four electric locomotives that were to be tested in freight train service as part of the electrification program of the Prussian State Railways on the test route between Dessau and Bitterfeld .

Similar to the Preußische ES 1 to ES 3 locomotive series, the chassis , chassis and superstructure design of the four machines EG 502 to EG 505 was made by Hanomag , while the electrical part, in particular the motor drive and electrical control, was each done by a different one Company was placed. The latter here were AEG , Felten & Guilleaume , BBC and Siemens-Schuckert-Werke .

After extensive and satisfactory test drives - including with the EG 505 especially for a planned light rail operation in Berlin - the EG 502, 504 and 505 were used in regular rail service from 1912. The EG 503 was only delivered by Felten & Guilleaume in 1913, the reason given is the simultaneous takeover of the F&G Dynamowerk by AEG.

Prussian EG 502

At the beginning of the First World War , the electric rail operations of the Halle Railway Directorate were discontinued. From 1915 the EG 502 and EG 505 were transferred to the Nieder-Salzbrunn depot for operation on the Silesian railway lines and returned to the ED Halle in 1923.

The EG 502 - EG 505 now proved to be too weak for the requirements that have increased in the meantime and were handed over to the Reichsbahndirektion Karlsruhe for operation on the Wiesen- and Wehratalbahn .
