The EG 506 Halle was an electric locomotive of the Prussian State Railways , which was to be tested in the freight train service on the test route between Dessau and Bitterfeld .

history

The EG 506 Halle was ordered at the same time as the four locomotives EG 502 to EG 505 Halle . Technically, it was identical to these machines. The mechanical part was supplied by Berliner Maschinenbau AG (BMAG), although the structure differed significantly from the locomotives EG 502 to EG 505 Halle supplied by Hanomag . The electrical equipment was manufactured by the BMAG subsidiary Maffei-Schwartzkopff-Werke Wildau (MSW).

After the first test drives, the transformer was defective . After its repair and the installation of additional switching stages, the EG 506 was used in regular rail service with satisfactory performance from 1912.

In July 1914 the EG 506 was loaned to the Wroclaw Railway Directorate. From then on, it was used by the Nieder Salzbrunn depot in the Silesian network . Since ED Halle ceased electrical operations after the outbreak of World War I, EG 506 remained in the Silesian network and was renamed EG 506 Breslau there from 1915 .

After 1923, the EG 506 proved to be too weak for the meanwhile increased requirements in the Silesian network and, like the type series EG 502 - EG 505, was handed over to the Reichsbahndirektion Karlsruhe for operation on the Wiesen- and Wehratalbahn .
