A Prickensetzboot , occasionally beacon setter boat is a working ship type to set Pricken . It is used by the waterways and shipping authorities on the German North Sea coast .

history

Prickles mark the fairways in the Wadden Sea , which due to their shallow water cannot be approached by buoy layers. For this reason, the pricks were brought into position in the past with an open dinghy . When seated, one man stood in the water or mud and held the boat in position while the others were busy washing it up on the swaying boat. Pulling pricks that were no longer correctly standing and their stumps were particularly exhausting.

In the 1990s, the Tönning Waterways and Shipping Office created the concept for a stable and manoeuvrable workboat, which should also take occupational safety and economic efficiency into account. The first boat to meet these specifications, the Pricke , was put into service in 1998. After this prototype was discarded, the knowledge gained from operation and the specifications from an expert report were taken into account in the boats built afterwards.

Furnishing

Today's boats are made of high-quality, seawater-resistant aluminum . They are driven by a marine diesel engine that acts on a fixed propeller. The flat hull allows it to fall dry in the mudflats.

The boats are equipped with an anchor post for safe positioning in the tidal current, a permanently installed pump with a four-meter-long flushing lance, brackets for several bundles of pricks and a small steering position that also offers weather protection.

Boats

At the Tönning Waterways and Shipping Office, the Butchers (built in 2007) are stationed in the outskirts of Amrum and the new Pricke (built in 2012) in the outskirts of Tönning .

Following the example of these boats, three more prickly set boats were built in 2014 and put into service for the waterways and shipping authorities in Bremerhaven , Emden and Wilhelmshaven .
