Prince Robinson

Prince Robinson (* 7. June 1902 in Portsmouth (Virginia) , Virginia ; † 23. July 1960 in New York City ) was an American jazz - tenor saxophonist and clarinetist of Swing .

Life

Robinson came to New York in 1924 and played here with Elmer Snowden , Duke Ellington in 1924 and toured South America with Leon Abbey in 1927 . He was then a member of McKinney's Cotton Pickers , where he shone as a soloist in the titles Crying and Sighting, Rainbow Round My Shoulder (1928) and I Found a New Baby (1929). After the band split up in 1934, he worked with Blanche Calloway , Willie Bryant 1937/38, Roy Eldridge , Lucky Millinder and from 1940 to 1944 with Louis Armstrong (heard in the titles Yes Suh, I'll Get Mine Bye and Bye 1941 and Coquette 1942). He also recorded tracks with Teddy Wilson ( You Showd Me the Way, The Mood That I'm In , 1937), and Lil Hardin Armstrong ( When I Went Back Home , 1937) during this period. From 1947 to 1953 he worked with Claude Hopkins , 1953 with Dickie Wells and from 1954 with Freddie Washington .
