The successes with the prototypes Do 11 , Do 13 and Do 23 brought the Dornier works in southern Germany to the limit of capacity. Dornier had long wanted to open a branch at the sea for seaplanes in northern Germany. The new construction and renovation of the building made it possible to set up efficient assembly lines and package production. The cladding sheets were z. B. no longer adapted to the aircraft, but cut, bent, drilled and even painted in a package in devices. Up to 40 aircraft a month left the Wismar plant.

Initially, the Do 11, Do 13 and Do 23 types were produced. After the introduction of the central allocation of types by the Reich Aviation Ministry , the Junkers W 34 , Heinkel He 111 and Junkers Ju 88 types followed , until finally the Do 217 in 1941 another Dornier aircraft went into production at the NDW. In 1942 another Dornier factory was set up in Neustadt-Glewe . From 1943 onwards, only Focke-Wulf Fw 190s were built by the NDW as part of the “ Jägerprogramm ” . The assembly of the Do 335 combat aircraft, which was also planned in Wismar from 1944 , did not take place. More than 7000 employees were employed in the NDW companies - including the external companies - as in all German armaments factories of the Second World War, including forced laborers and concentration camp prisoners.

The factory was destroyed by two bombing raids in April 1945 and the remains were dismantled by the Soviet occupying forces. There are no structural remains.
