The Prinz-Claus-Brücke ( Dutch Prins Clausbrug ) is a cable-stayed bridge in the capital of the province of Utrecht in the interior of the Netherlands . It crosses the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal and was designed by the architect Ben van Berkel , who grew up in the Kanaleneiland district to the west of the bridge and who runs the architecture office UNStudio together with Caroline Bos .
The project name was initially Papendorpse brug ( German "Brücke von Papendorp" ), but was renamed to Prins Clausbrug in honor of Prince Consort Claus von Amsberg, who died in 2002 . The cost of building the bridge came to around 24.5 million euros. On June 25, 2003, the building was opened by Princess Máxima .
As part of the Staalbouwdag 2004, the bridge received the Belgian Steel Prize in the “International Projects” category.
