action

The Russian-German Katharina is a member of a women's gang. Together with her friends Yvonne and Jenny, sometime between Christmas and New Year, she moves through the concrete wasteland of a high-rise estate. They beat up a young girl in the S-Bahn for no reason, steal from the lesbian doctor Marlene, extort protection money from a young woman and ambush her rival Özlem to confront her. Since Yvonne is due to start a prison sentence the next day, the young women want to celebrate together again. They go to a house party, get drunk, and go to a flirt club with Jenny's little sister. When Yvonne does not start her sentence the next day, the situation escalates. She falls out with Katharina, is thrown out of the house by her mother and walks desperately through the streets. In an underpass, she meets Özlem and her friends who want to take revenge for the attack. She tortures Yvonne and stabs her in the leg with a knife until she pulls a gun and shoots one of the attackers. Then she flees, is found by Katharina, who calls Marlene for help. However, this alerted the police, whereupon Yvonne was arrested.

criticism

The jury's justification for awarding the “First Steps Awards 2006” in the “Full-length feature films” category stated: “PRINCESS is one of those films that won't let you go for days. A gang of girls who deal with gray with casual and indescribable brutality Days between the years in the prefabricated building ghetto. Both this place - an somewhere in nowhere that can be called Dortmund, Hamburg or Marzahn - and the time - an acoustic state of war of early New Year's Eve. The young actresses are masterfully told Ghetto film that does without burning garbage cans, with protagonists who always look good and wear freshly washed white jackets, who work as a doctor's assistant or in a hotel - these are not the neglected creatures that no longer concern us. We saw a very political film which is told with an almost “magical realism.” PRINCESS is close to the present and raptured at the same time - an ice age. "
