Prince Regent Theater
The Prinzregenten-Theater in Ludwigshafen am Rhein , in the Hemshof district , is a privately run theater that was founded in the summer of 1977 by the actor and director Bernhard F. Dropmann with the aim of preserving the Palatinate dialect .
history
The first premiere took place on January 15, 1978 in the “Theater im Hemshof”, the name of the theater at the time, with the production “Colorful Revue”.
Until 1990, Bernhard F. Dropmann staged 55 premieres with around 3,250 performances in the “Theater im Hemshof”. The growing popularity of the small theater in the Hemshof meant that an expansion was inevitable.
In June 1991 Dropmann celebrated the first premiere of the play “Hurray, the Palatinate is here” in the newly opened and self-designed Prinzregenten Theater. Countless premieres and new productions have followed to this day and the curtain has so far been raised far more than 9,000 times, for that alone, over 1,000 times for the classic “ Halt die Gosch, Bu! “(By Fitzgerald Kusz ), which was also recorded for television by Südwestfunk (today: SWR ) .
A large part of the staged and performed pieces come from the pen of the impresario Bernhard F. Dropmann.
The theater now has several stages and plays almost daily in weekly changing blocks all year round. The children's and youth theater (JukiLU), which has been part of the house since 1991, plays children's and youth plays several times a week.
In 1993, another stage was installed in the foyer of the theater, on which the Midnight Spikes, a Saturday midnight show with a changing program, can be seen. Since 1997, cabaret has also been performed directly in the “Prinzenrolle” in the neighboring house .
In 2004 the Hortus Deorum (Garden of the Gods) was opened in the courtyard of the Prinzregenten Theater . Open-air theater is offered here in the summer months . The theater receives an average of 70,000 visitors from all over Germany every year.
The houses
Large house
The “big house” has existed in its current form since 1991. The foyer and the auditorium were designed with frescoes by specially committed artists and stage designers . In the theater, which is modeled on the Rococo, there are among other things six boxes, some of which recall princes and regents (e.g. Liselotte von der Pfalz , Elector Karl Theodor , Prince Regent Luitpold and King Ludwig II ) at the time of the "Old" Palatinate .
Prince role (small house)
The "Prinzenrolle" was opened in 1997 with the world premiere of "Halbschatten über Herrenstein" by Bernhard F. Dropmann. So far, other premieres have followed such as For example : Loriot's dramatic works, Stardreck Duck Prize Part I + II, the Camelia Dame, Gerti Weberlein or Saint Joan of the built-in kitchen (a solo program), as well as the one-act plays the Bear and the marriage proposal from Anton Pavlovich Chekhov . On March 29, 2007, the Prinzenrolle celebrated its 10th birthday with the new production of the opening play "Halbschatten über Herrenstein", directed by René Weintz .
Midnight peaks
The "midnight peaks" are an umbrella term for the comedy and cabaret evenings that take place on Saturdays in the foyer of the Prinzregenten Theater. Here are pieces on the program such as For example: fairy tale hour for sex adults, top-tier riders or Schawüle nights. The performances, which are not always completely suitable for young people , therefore only start after 10:30 p.m. and continue until after midnight.
Hortus Deorum
The "Garden of the Gods" (Hortus Deorum) is located in the inner courtyard, between the "large" (Prince Regent Theater) and the "small" (Prince's role) house. In the summer months there is classic and comedic open-air theater in the ivy-covered garden .
JuKiLu
The Ju gend- and Ki Direction theater Lu dwigshafen in 1991 took for the first time on the game mode Prince Regent Theater. The performances usually take place on Wednesday and Sunday mornings on the stage of the large house. Here the "little" viewers get to see pieces like: Huibert das kleine Gespenst, Schlumpi and Pumpi, Rumpelstiltskin, Frau Holle, Mixpickelmonsters, etc.
