Prokhorivka ( Ukrainian Прохорівка ; Russian Прохоровка Prokhorovka ) is a village in the Ukrainian Oblast of Cherkassy with about 400 inhabitants (2001).
The village, first mentioned in writing in 1622, is the administrative center of the district council of the same name in Kaniw Rajon , to which the village of Suschky ( Сушки , ⊙ ) with about 700 inhabitants also belongs.
The village is located on the left bank of the Dnieper , 19 km by road southeast of the district center of Kaniv and 75 km northwest of the center of Cherkasy Oblast . The T-24-04 territorial road runs through the village .
The university rector, writer and scientist Mychajlo Maxymovytsch lived in the area of the village Prokhorivka in the now abandoned hamlet of Mychajlowa Hora ( Михайлова Гора ). He received his friend Taras Shevchenko here in 1859 , who painted portraits of him and his wife Maria and was then denounced, arrested and finally expelled from Ukraine.
