Profetus is a Finnish funeral doom band from Tampere that was founded in 2006.

history

The band was founded at the winter solstice 2006 by the singer and guitarist Anssi Mäkinen and the keyboardist S. Kujansuu. After A. Palmu was added as a drummer, the songs The Skull of Silence and Winter Solstice were rehearsed, which later formed the demo Saturnine . During the rehearsals they met Eppe Kuismin, an old friend of the band, who agreed to produce the demo under Mäkinen's direction. The demo was published in 2007 with an edition of 200 copies. Makoto Fujishima of Weird Truth Productions became aware of the band through the demo and ordered the first copies. After the publication, Palmu left the cast, whereupon S. Kujansuu's brother V. Kujansuu took over the post. In addition, Kuismin agreed to be a guitarist in the band. After that, work on the next album began Coronation of the Black Sun . The recordings for this took place in Kuopio in summer 2008 under the direction of producer Wicked Ischanius . The release took place in early 2009 on the Finnish label Rusty Crowbar Records . Then they went on tour through Finland in the spring of that year, which also included Mournful Congregation , Mourning Beloveth and Longing for Dawn . Then the band played together with Tyranny , before they could be seen at Hammer Open Air in 2010. After a break they started preparing the follow-up album … to Open the Passages in Dusk . The recordings took place again under the direction of Mäkinen and Kuismin, this time in the band's own studio in Tampere. The recordings lasted four nights. The album was released in 2012 through Weird Truth Productions.

style

Laurent Lignon from doom-metal.com assigned the band to Funeral Doom in his review of Coronation of the Black Sun. The music is comparable to that of Thergothon and sounds cold, slow and relentless. The group doesn't use bass, they use a keyboard instead. Luxi Lahtinen from voicesfromthedarkside.de also found in his review of … to Open the Passages in Dusk that the band Funeral Doom plays in the style of Thergothon. The music sounds depressed and slow, but also gets boring in the long run.
