As All Seasons Die -

As The All Seasons ( English , since all seasons die ') is an EP of Finnish Funeral Doom band Profetus and appeared on 13 June 2014 Weird Truth Productions and Svart Records . It is the first release of the band on which Matti Mäkela participates.

background

The EP was created in summer 2013 and was recorded in a self-made studio in a forest hut in Finland . Anssi Mäkkinen wrote the lyrics and music for all the songs. For the song Dead Are Our Leaves of Autumn Justin Hartwig ( Mournful Congregation ) contributed additional guitar parts, which were recorded in The Cave Studio ( Australia ) under the supervision of Damon Good. The mixing was done by Daniel Lowndes and Profetus in Resonance Sound Studio (Finland), the mastering was done by Jaime Gomez Arrelano in Orgone Studios ( United Kingdom ).

The EP was released on June 13, 2014 as a CD version in digipak on the Japanese label Weird Truth Productions (1,500 copies) and as an LP on Svart Records (500 copies). A music video was shot for the song The Dire Womb of Winter , directed by Markus Nieminen and produced by Oy Routafilmi Ab , and uploaded to the band's YouTube channel on May 7, 2015 .

In an interview with the Belgian webzine Darkview it is made clear that the EP is a concept album, which deals with the perpetual sequence of the four seasons ( spring , summer , autumn and winter ) as a metaphor for a cycle of life and death . The EP is also given a thematic similarity to Antonio Vivaldi's The Four Seasons . Anssi Mäkkinen confirms in an interview that she is a fan of classical music, including Vivaldi's music, and that the similarities are therefore no coincidence. According to an interview on the band's Weird Truth Productions page , the album would tell the story of a goddess of nature , beginning with the birth in spring ( The Rebirth of Sorrow ) to her snow-covered grave in winter ( The Dire Womb of Winter ) .

Musical style

In his review of As All Seasons Die, Peter Mildner from metal.de assigns the band to Funeral Doom, but notes that the group, which is rather unusual for Funeral Doom, dispenses with the bass and instead increasingly relies on keyboards. The band would rely more on a funeral mood than on abysmal riffs, the guitars are audible but reserved, and are overshadowed by the drums and organ. The guttural singing is nothing more than a hoarse rattle. The band is compared to Colosseum and Skepticism .

The Metal Observer

Peter Mildner from Metal.de certifies that the band has new facets of sound, which would primarily result from the lack of bass. As All Seasons Die has as its goal the representation of a funeral procession, dominated by uniform marching rhythms, pounding kettledrum and a clearly present organ, while the guitars are reduced to accompanying and marginal phenomena. The band moves outside of orthodox genre sounds and would build up a similarly gloomy atmosphere as Colosseum and Skepticism . Mildner awarded 8 out of 10 points.

Delirium also judges Metalnews.de positively . The band can skillfully combine blossoming beauty and deepest depression. The continuous organ tones would support the atmosphere and were not noticed negatively at any time. Although the band works with the usual means and genre characteristics, the mood of the individual songs is appropriate. All in all, the album is wonderful and sounds professional. However, the runtime of 36 minutes is criticized as too short. Delirium awarded 5.5 out of 7 points.
