Pressure Points is a Finnish progressive death metal band from Heinola that was founded in 2004.

history

The band was formed in the summer of 2004 by drummer Vili Auvinen and singer and guitarist Kari Olli after they discovered they shared the same musical interests. The first rehearsals followed and the first songs were created before Janne Parikka joined the band as bass player in autumn. The three of them played for about half a year, and a first demo was also created. After Juho Suortti was added as the second guitarist, Veli-Matti Kyllönen was added as keyboardist in early 2007. In 2008 the band took third place at the Finnish Metal Awards in the “Best Demo” category, and in 2010 they took second place in the “Newcomer of the Year” category. In January 2010 the debut album Remorses to Remember was released via Firebox Records , which was followed by the second album under the name False Lights in August 2015 via 7Hard Records . In their career, the band has given over 100 gigs inside and outside Finland, performing with Insomnium , Nile , Keep of Kalessin , Katatonia , Samael and Septicflesh , among others .

style

Ryan Sparks from seaoftranquility.org assigned the band to Progressive Death Metal in his review of Remorses to Remember . He found similarities to Opeth , with the group making use of tempo changes. The singing fluctuates between clear and guttural singing . In addition, a Hammond organ can occasionally be heard. Michael Klaas from Metal.de also noticed something in common with Opeth in his review of False Lights . In addition, influences from Amorphis and Ghost Brigade can be seen. The similarity to Opeth is mainly caused by "long, complexly structured songs, large, demanding melodies and [the] change between guttural and clear vocals".
