Project UFO is an American mystery - and science fiction - television series , which from 1978 to 1979 by Jack Webb for Mark VII Limited in collaboration with World Vision Enterprise was produced. The series is based on the Project Blue Book researching the UFO phenomenon; the alternative title is therefore Project Blue Book . It first aired from February 19, 1978 to July 19, 1979 on NBC . The Spanish title is Proyecto UFO: Investigación OVNI , there was no German synchronization .

Major Jake Gatlin and Staff Sergeant Harry Fitz are members of the US Air Force charged with investigating UFO sightings. Gatlin is also interested in the task because, as an Air Force pilot , he himself once observed a phenomenon that could not be clarified and aroused his interest in the Project Blue Book. A case listed in the Blue Book in every episode investigate Gatlin and Fitz, so the Mantell incident ( Mantell UFO incident ) on 7 January 1948 near Maysville (Kentucky) .
In the second season, Jordan retired and was replaced by Edward Winter, who played Captain Ben Ryan.
