The Promnitz is called Ilschengraben in the upper reaches and has its source in the meadows south of the Dresden-Nord motorway triangle . In the vicinity of Volkersdorf , Bärnsdorf and Berbisdorf , where floods used to cause considerable damage, they reach tributaries from the west (including Bartlake and Jähnertbach). Further western tributaries drain the forest ponds, the large ponds and the Frauenteich. The Promnitz is thus the most important receiving water of the Moritzburg ponds and the numerous ditches from the wet depressions and troughs of the Moritzburg small peaks landscape . A little below Radeburg it flows into the Große Röder .
