history

The time when the Bärnsdorfer Flur was settled cannot be precisely dated, as there is only one find from the later Bronze Age (around 800 BC). A document from 1309 mentions the place for the first time.

The current name refers to its founder Bernhard. Bärnsdorf is to be equated with Bernhardisdorf, that means village of Bernhard.

Over the centuries several spellings have emerged:

  • 1309 Bernhardistorf
  • 1420 Bernherstorff
  • 1420 Bernhesdorf
  • 1422 Bernsdorff
  • From 1690 Bärnsdorf, but also Bernsdorff

It was not until the 19th century that today's spelling became generally valid.

Bärnsdorf is a Waldhufendorf . A former manor no longer exists. Nevertheless, for a long time the Bärnsdorf farmers had to do manual and tensioning services for other landlords as well as pay interest, for example to the electoral Ostravorwerk and the episcopal archdeaconate Nisan . A magnificent neo-Gothic church was built in 1875 in place of a 17th century hall. In the adjacent rectory with a half-timbered superstructure and a pointed niche portal in the front there is a beautiful picture of the old church. The old school opposite (today the seat of the Heimatverein) is built similarly. The place also had a water mill (abandoned in 1908 and later demolished), which, located next to the inn, was operated with the water from a specially created mill pond, today's village pond.

The fish farming plays a major role since the 16th century. It goes back to Georg the Bearded , who laid the basis for the Moritzburg pond area in order to put a stop to the deforestation of the forest. The three farms in the small town of Cunnertswalde (mentioned for the first time in 1378) belonged as so-called pasture farms with 114 hectares of land to the Dresden Racing Club until 1945 , which ran foal rearing here by a foal rearing club founded especially for this purpose in 1882. In 1945, in the course of the land reform, the association was expropriated. The new farmers who received the homesteads joined the LPG Bärnsdorf in 1960 . The place was incorporated into Bärnsdorf in 1950.

On January 1, 1950, the previously independent municipality of Cunnertswalde was incorporated.

Bärnsdorf was an independent municipality until 1994. On March 1, 1994, it merged with the neighboring communities of Berbisdorf and Volkersdorf to form the new community of Promnitztal . However, this only existed until 1998. On January 1, 1999, Bärnsdorf became part of the city of Radeburg .

The local attractions include the Lößnitzgrundbahn as well as the neo-Gothic village church and the large pond , which is part of the Moritzburg pond area. Today carp is still farmed in inland fisheries. The Moritzburg lighthouse from the late 18th century stands on the west bank . The small dome landscape in which Bärnsdorf is embedded is also unique .

Cycle tourists reach Bärnsdorf via the Saxon city route or the Heinrich-Zille-Radweg . Local hiking trails connect you to the Moritzburg pond area, which is well developed for tourists .
