history

When the Evangelical State Church of Nassau-Hessen was reorganized in 1934 through the merger of three churches, five provosts were initially set up, with the area of the Evangelical Church in Nassau (including the Hessian hinterland ) forming the Nassau Provostry. When the merger of the three Hessian churches was officially confirmed in 1947, the provost's office was divided into the provosts of South Nassau (based in Wiesbaden) and North Nassau. The provost office of South Nassau was dissolved at the end of 2017 and its area was distributed to the newly cut provosts Rhein-Main and Rheinhessen and Rhein-Lahn .
