biography
He was probably born in 1593 to Alessandro Caffarelli, 1608 conservator of Rome , and Pantasilea Astalli. Although the family found themselves in financial difficulties, his relationship - on the maternal side - with Pope Paul V paved the way for his career in the Curia .
Pope Innocent X elevated him to the rank of cardinal on March 2, 1654 at the Conservatory . On March 23, he was consecrated and received the titular church of San Callisto as a cardinal priest .
He died on August 14, 1659 and was buried in the family vault in the church of Santa Maria sopra Minerva . He left all his possessions in the sacristy of St. Peter's Basilica .
