Protestantism in Egypt

The Protestantism in Egypt is a very small minority and consists to a large extent from the Coptic Evangelical Church .

The annual growth of the Protestants in Egypt is 1.3%, which is less than that of the Muslims . The majority of the population of Egypt is made up of Sunni Muslims.

A Coptic Evangelical Organization for Social Services exists. The German Evangelical Secondary School Cairo is a school in church-run.

Protestants are officially allowed to build churches in Egypt. However, the religious freedom of Christians is being hindered officially. On the World Persecution Index of the Christian charity Open Doors for 2018, Egypt ranks 17th among the countries where Christians are most severely persecuted.

Denominations

The Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East , an Anglican Church , has more than 10,000 members in Egypt. The Reformed Evangelical Church of Egypt , which dates back to the activities of Presbyterian missionaries in the 19th century, is by far the largest Protestant church in Egypt with around 300,000 members. There are also various Pentecostal churches ( Assemblies of God , 75,000 members; Pentecostal Church of God , 3800 members; Church of Grace , 2600 members; Church of God - Anderson , 1500 members; Pentecostal Holiness with 1400 members; Church of God of Prophecy , 1100 members) used to Holiness belongs Church of evangelicals Copts ( "Free Methodists") with 43,000 members, the brethren movement with 15 000 members, the Anglican Episcopal Church of Jerusalem and the Middle East (diocese of Egypt) with 10,000 members and the Baptist Egyptian Baptist Convention with about 1000 members.
