The nuraghe

The Protonuraghe Brunku Madagui (also Bruncu Madugui or Brunku Madìli) is a Sardinian proto or corridor uraghe ( Italian Nuraghe a corridoio ). It is located on the Giara di Gesturi , 4.5 km from Gesturi . Remnants of cork date it to 1820 BC. BC and make it one of the oldest nuraghi of the Bonnanaro culture , the forerunner of the nuragic culture .

description

Reconstruction of a round hut

The nuraghe consists of an irregularly shaped stone terrace of about 28.0 x 16.0 m² in the past about 4.5 m high. The steeply sloping walls consist of large polygonal blocks. The beginning of the stairs leading to the terrace can still be seen. On the platform lie the foundation walls of two round rooms, which were covered with a roof made of branches covered with clay. A curved corridor with a central, round cell and side niches leads through the nuraghi.

Nuraghi of this kind originated earlier than the classical tholosnuraghi . Most of them do not have false vaults , but internal corridors, some of which are branched, with side niches. In contrast to most of the domed uraghe, the corridors at the top are not ogival , covered with large stone slabs. The nuraghi usually have very thick walls and an irregular shape. Another feature is a platform that covers the protonuraghen.

Around the nuraghi are the remains of a village, consisting of about a dozen round huts ( Italian Capanna Circulare ). The Protonuraghe and the surrounding nuragic settlement from the late 2nd millennium BC Were included in the Parco Archeologico.

Time position

The approximately 300 Protonuraghi on Sardinia were formed during phase B of the two-phase Bonnanaro culture , which was the successor to the both megalithic and Copper Age Monte Claro culture between 1800 and 1500 BC. Ruled.
