The private collection prototype - people. Force. Dare. is an automobile museum in Hamburg . The focus is on the presentation of sports and racing cars from the German post-war period as well as their designers and drivers.

History and buildings

The idea of ​​giving historical vehicles just as much meaning and space as the people who made motorsport great with their passion was put into practice by Thomas König and Oliver Schmidt when the car museum was founded. Over many years they built up the collection and developed the concept of the museum: stories tell stories. The motto Prototype - People is based on this idea . Force. Car . It loads the common abbreviation car with meaning: Each of the three elements of the term is assigned the same value. The museum opened on April 12, 2008. It is located in HafenCity in the listed former factory building of the Harburger Gummi-Kamm-Compagnie , which was built between 1902 and 1906 and is close to the International Maritime Museum Hamburg .

The vehicles are presented without disruptive barriers or glass panes. The automobiles presented are on three levels with an exhibition area of ​​2500 m². The museum wants to show the fascination of the automobile comprehensively, hence the motto people. Force. Dare. The collection focuses on around 50 automobiles, engines and models of sports and racing cars from e.g. B. Porsche , Volkswagen and Borgward , mostly from the 40s, 50s and 60s of the 20th century, as well as modern exhibits such as the prototype for Audi's Le Mans vehicles from 1999 or Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel's first Formula 1 racing cars. In the collection the visitor will find many special features and unique items such as the Porsche Type 64 Berlin-Rome car, a Porsche 356 from 1950, the formula racing car with a Porsche Spyder boxer engine from Otto Mathé or the world record car from Petermax Müller with one A tuned 78 HP Beetle engine installed on the chassis of a VW Kübelwagen.

Since 2015 were on permanent loan from the then existing Trips Museum in the Villatrips to Hemmersbach Castle acquired numerous exhibits, including his study and that of Gerhard Mitter tuned Colotti Car Union Trips Formula Junior - race car and one of his late in the 1950 Years from the USA brought with him racing karts , which he used on his own track.

The founders of the museum see their company as a kind of prototype, which offers motorsport and design enthusiasts a meeting place to be amazed, happy and talk shop.
