The Providence-painter is a painter of the Attic - red-figure style. He worked around the year 470 BC. Chr.
The Providence painter is considered a student of the Berlin painter . He is considered a meticulous artist who stands at the transition between archaic and classical art. He finds it difficult to shed archaic habits. He attaches great importance to archaic anatomy and clothing schemes. He only tells smaller stories on some larger vessels such as stamnoi and hydrien , where he depicts groups of gods and mythical events. Mostly, however, he paints smaller picture carriers such as Nolan amphorae or lekytha . A preferred motif are women who are being persecuted. It is a general trait of the women he portrays to be in a hurry. Details of his drawings such as eyes, earrings, ankles or certain plant ornaments are reminiscent of the Berlin painter. The favorite inscription for a glaucon can be found on several vases . The Providence painter got his emergency name from a vase ( name vase ) that is in Providence .
