The Prunus prostrata ( Prunus prostrata ) is a plant of the genus Prunus in the family of Rosaceae (Rosaceae). It is native to the Mediterranean area .
description
The recumbent cherry grows as a prostrate, thornless shrub and reaches heights of 20 to 100 centimeters (erect to 150 centimeters). The small very short-stalked leaves are elliptical or egg-shaped , and especially in the front half cut . The leaves are gray-tomentose below or bare on both sides.
The mostly single sitting, hermaphrodite , radial symmetry , five-fold flowers appear in front of the leaves. The five sepals are green. The five pink petals are about 7 millimeters long. The red, egg-shaped, slightly bitter stone fruit when ripe reaches a diameter of 8 millimeters.
It blooms in spring; the main bloom is staggered according to the altitude of the occurrence and extends from April to June.
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 32.
Occurrence
The recumbent cherry is widespread in the northern Mediterranean from Spain to Lebanon , in the south from Morocco to Tunisia .
As the site of limestone cliffs are the montane belt between 1000 m and 2400 m above sea level preferred.
