The hard ray flounder ( Psettodes ) are a genus of flatfish (Pleuronectiformes). They are considered to be the most primitive flatfish, stand in isolation as the Psettodidae family, and are the sister group of all other flatfish. These predatory fish often swim in an upright position.

features

The hard ray flounder is noticeable because of its large, strongly toothed mouth. The tongue is also covered with small teeth. The eyes are equally often ("racemic") on the left or right side of the body. The eye that has migrated from the blind side to the "upper side" ("wandering eye") is still close to the edge of the back between the "upper" - = zenital and "lower" - = nadiral side. The palatine is dentate. The fish still have hard rays . The dorsal fin begins behind the eyes. The pelvic fins are still almost symmetrical and are supported by a hard ray and four soft rays. The caudal fin has 15 fin rays. The scales are round. There is a lateral line organ on both sides of the body . The fish are 55 to 80 centimeters long.
