Psykup is a French metal band from Toulouse . Stylistically, the band can be assigned to alternative metal . Through this the five French allow elements of jazz and swing to flow into their music. The lyrics are mostly sung in French; only on the third studio album do English texts predominate.

Band history

After a first demo in 1998, three years after it was founded, Psykup did not release their first EP Sors la tête until 2000 , which sold over 3,500 copies in a very short time. With appearances as support bands for Soulfly , Suicidal Tendencies and other and various festival appearances , the level of awareness increases and the fan base grows. Before that, Mélanie leaves the band and David "Vidda" Castel joins them.

In 2002 the debut album Le Temps de la Réflexion was released after Psykup was signed by Jerkov Musiques / Mosaic Music . They tour extensively with well-known bands such as Gojira and Sleeppers through France and the Benelux countries and can sell around 5,000 LPs during their concerts alone . However, Yannik left the band soon after, and so Vidda switched from bass to guitar . In 2003 a suitable bass player was found in Stéphane 'Pelo' Bezzina.

In 2004 Psykup released the album Acoustiques / Remixes / Vidéo , which primarily contains remixes and acoustic versions of already known songs. L'ombre et la Proie is the second real studio album and will be released in 2005. With this album, the band achieved another fan increase.

The current album We Love You All was released in 2008 on the Season of Mist label . It is the first album that was not only delivered on a double CD with a three-hour bonus DVD, but was also sung for the first time in predominantly English.

With the French-language song En Vivre Libre ou Mourir from this album, the band even uses the help of the rappers from Khod Breaker .

The album CTRL + ALT + FUCK was realized via the French croudfunding platform KissKissBankBank.com and was released in March 2017. The project surpassed the target of 1000 € by far. Over € 17,000 was reached within 45 days.

Side projects

Psykup is not the only music project of the five Toulouseians. Vidda, Ju and Brice also play experimental Death Metal together at Manimal . Milka also has a Screamo project called My Own Private Alaska and one with the alternative band Agora Fidelio .
