Pterospora andromedea

Pterospora andromedea is a chlorophyllless , myco-heterotrophic herbaceous plant and covered with multicellular glandular hairs. Their root system is compact, the shoot and inflorescence axis sprouting from them is pink to reddish. The leaves are simple.

The inflorescence is multi-flowered, the flowers are urn-shaped. The sepals are fused. The stamens are half as long as the crown , the anthers are long spurred and probably only turning late, slit at the end and at the sides. The nectaries can hardly be seen. The stylus is depressed and very short.

The fruit opens from the base, the seeds are winged and thin-walled, with slightly elongated cells.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16 or 48.
