Journalistik is a German-language communication science journal. It was founded in 1956 and is published four times a year by Springer VS , Wiesbaden.

Structure and thematic focus

The journal usually contains four larger articles (research reports), personal details (laudations on the birthdays of specialist representatives, appointments, post-doctoral qualifications and obituaries) and book reviews. Occasionally the issue is preceded by a column or a guest essay. One focus of the essays is the presentation of empirical research results, for example on media content, media use and media effects . Studies on political communication and media policy , journalism and communicator research, and specialist history and development are also traditional subjects. More recently, the “Journalistik” has increasingly included articles on network and online media. Contributions to media history no longer shape the magazine as much as in the early years.

Editor and editor

In contrast to many scientific journals, "Journalistik" is not an organ of a scientific society but is the responsibility of an editorial board. Since the first edition in 1956, these editors have included prominent names such as Emil Dovifat , Walter Hagemann , Wilmont Haacke , Franz Ronneberger , Ulrich Saxer , Wolfgang R. Langenbucher , Klaus Schönbach and Arnulf Kutsch. In 2016, Klaus Beck (Berlin), Christiane Eilders (Düsseldorf), Christina Holtz-Bacha (Nuremberg) and Carsten Wünsch (Bamberg) formed the group of editors. Since 2018 Prof. Dr. Ines Engelmann was there. The editor of the magazine lies with Gunter Reus (Hanover); Klaus Arnold and Michael Harnischmacher (Trier) have their own editorial team for book reviews . Walter J. Schütz and Günter Kieslich were also predecessors for decades .

Authors

In the six decades of its existence, "Journalistik" has been able to count practically all well-known representatives of journalism and communication science in Germany, Austria and German-speaking Switzerland among its authors. As a place of publication, the journal is also aimed at young scientists.

Review process

The editorial team forwards all submitted manuscripts to the editors and to two external reviewers. The authors of the respective reviews remain anonymous for the authors and the authors remain anonymous for the reviewers ( double-blind peer review ). Expert opinions and the two opinions obtained from outside form the basis for acceptance or rejection of the texts, with the external opinions being given more weight. Criteria for assessment are theoretical foundation, relevance of the question, method as well as presentation and language.

Indices
