Media term

Saxer defines media in the journalistic and media studies sense as "complex institutionalized systems around organized communication channels of specific capabilities". From this definition he derives an integrative term for media studies . There is generally a lack of a uniform theoretical research program. In addition, the individual disciplines tend to limit themselves to the individual media and, as a result, only be able to provide very special research services, which at best represent a special media ontology. A general media theory, according to Saxer, can only be developed through the understanding of media outlined above. For this purpose, the media must be examined with regard to the aspects of systematicity , intermediality , technicality , organization , functionality, institutionalization and media change .
