Puccinia subglobosa is a stand fungal art from the order of the rust fungi (Pucciniales). The fungus is an endoparasite of the daisy family Rhysolepis palmeri . Symptoms of the infestation by the species are rust spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces of the host plants. She is endemic to Mexico .

features

Macroscopic features

Puccinia subglobosa can only be recognized with the naked eye by means of the spore beds protruding on the surface of the host. They grow in nests that appear as yellowish to brown spots and pustules on the leaf surfaces.

Microscopic features

The mycelium of Puccinia subglobosa grows as with all Puccinia TYPES intercellular and forms Saugfäden that grow into the storage tissue of the host. Their spermogonia and aecia are unknown. The uredia of the fungus growing on both sides of the host leaves are dark cinnamon brown. Their yellow-brown uredospores are 21–24 × 16–19 µm in size, ovate to spherical and spiky. The bilateral growing parts of the species are black-brown, powdery and uncovered. The golden to clear maroon teliospores are two-celled, usually broad ellipsoid and 30–36 × 24–28 µm in size. Their stem is colorless and up to 65 µm long.

distribution

The known distribution area of Puccinia subglobosa only includes Mexico .

ecology

The host plant of Puccinia subglobosa is Rhysolepis palmeri . The fungus feeds on the nutrients present in the storage tissue of the plants, its spore beds later break through the leaf surface and release spores. The species goes through a development cycle of which only Telien and Uredien and their host are known so far; Spermogonia and Aecien could not be assigned to her.
