The Pulitzer Prize for Investigative Journalism has been presented under a variety of names since 1953.

  • From 1953 to 1963 the category was named "Pulitzer Prize for Local Reporting, No Edition Time".
  • 1964 to 1984, the category was named "Pulitzer Prize for Local Investigative Specialized Journalism" (Pulitzer Prize for Local Investigative Specialized Reporting).
