Punta Cup

The Punta Cup is an international junior soccer club competition in Uruguay .

The Punta Cup was first held in 2004. Since then, it has taken place annually in March and April in Punta del Este , Uruguay . However, the games will be held in the Estadio Domingo Burgueño (22,000 spectator capacity) in the neighboring city of Maldonado , in the Estadio Club Atlético Atenas (6,500 spectator capacity) in San Carlos , in the Estadio Municipal de Pan de Azúcar (4,000 spectator capacity) in Pan de Azúcar , in the Estadio Club Ituzaingó (4,000 spectator capacity) and in the Estadio Club Libertad (4,000 spectator capacity). So far, 160 teams with 3,200 players have participated in the event, which was broadcast via TV coverage in nine countries, and played a total of 349 games.

The tournament has an international field of participants with renowned clubs from countries such as Brazil , Argentina , Uruguay, Paraguay , Spain , Mexico , Australia and the USA . The U-18 teams of the clubs take part in the competition, which according to the organizers is one of the three most important of its kind worldwide and the most important of its kind in South America. In addition to the top teams from South America and Mexico, the teams from Real Madrid , FC Barcelona , Fairfield City and the national teams of Indonesia and the USA were also among the players involved. The mode of play provides for a preliminary round with five participating teams per group, quarter and semi-finals and a final. The game is played according to the rules of FIFA and the Asociación Uruguaya de Fútbol (AUF).

Nacional Montevideo is the most successful team in the history of the competition with three tournament victories so far. The top scorer, the best player of the tournament and the best goalkeeper of the tournament are highlighted separately. The tournament director of the Punta Cup is Diego Pereira .
