Pure Guava is the third studio album by the US rock band Ween and the first to be released on a major label . It was released on Elektra Records in 1992.

Many of the songs on the album come from two tapes the band made for friends. The first was called "Springtape", the second "The Caprice Classic Tape", according to Dean Ween on Triple-J Radio in 1993. In addition, the band recorded for the album for the last time on a 4-track recorder, until 2007 Applied effect one more time on their album La Cucaracha .

Push th'Little Daisies

Pure Guava features the band's most famous song, Push th'Little Daisies . In 1993 this song appeared on August Records as a single release, which includes both the album version and the radio version. The radio version is distinguished by the albums release by the fact that the word Shit by a sample from Prince -Song Alphabet St. was replaced.

The songs "Ode to Rene", "I Smoke Some Grass (Really Really High)" and "Mango Woman" were added as B-sides .

A music video was also shot for the song, which ran several times on MTV after the video was sarcastically commented on on the Beavis and Butt-Head show and dragged through the cocoa.

reception

Heather Phares from allmusic gives the album 5/5 points and writes:

“On the 1993 major label debut Pure Guava , Ween distilled their own mix of eclectic pop and crazy humor to the essentials. GodWeenSatan: The Oneness and The Pod were fascinating, but sometimes frustrating, albums. With 19 songs, Pure Guava is more polished and precise, but it's still sprawling and wacky. "
