The Puruvesi is a lake in eastern Finland , in the landscapes of South Savo and North Karelia .
The lake is located in the municipalities of Savonlinna and Kitee . It is part of the Saimaa lake system and borders on Lake Pihlajavesi to the south .
The island-rich Puruvesi has a large number of open water bodies , the largest of which are Hummonselkä , Pajuselkä , Sammalselkä , Mustanselkä and Ruosteselkä .
The lake is known for its clear water. The Saimaa ringed seal has been sighted in the Puruvesi in recent years .
