Pyhäselkä is a 361.1 km² lake in the North Karelia countryside in Finland . It forms the northernmost part of the Saimaa lake system. The most important tributaries are the Pielisjoki , which drains the Pielinen , among other things , and the outflow of the Höytiäinen lake, located about 5 km to the north . The city of Joensuu is located on the northeastern bank of the lake at the mouth of the Pielisjoki. The places Pyhäselkä and Rääkkylä are close to the southern shore of the lake. Pyhäselkä is connected to Lake Orivesi to the southwest .
