Rääkkylä [ ˈræːkːylæ ] ( Swedish historically Bräkylä ) is a municipality in eastern Finland with 2181 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018). It is in the countryside of North Karelia on the border with Savo .
Rääkkylä is located on a peninsula between the Orivesi and Pyhäselkä lakes , which are part of the Saimaa lake area, around 30 km south of Joensuu . In addition to the parish of Rääkkylä, the municipality includes the villages of Haapasalmi, Jaama, Nieminen, Oravisalo, Rasisalo, Rasivaara, Sintsi, Salokylä-Pötsönlahti and Varpasalo.
In Rääkkylä there is a wooden church completed in 1851 . The place is a center of Finnish folk music: Every year in July the festival "Kihaus" takes place. The world music band Värttinä was founded in Rääkkylä.
