reception
The online magazine hiphop.de has summarized the opinions of consumers that were given in comment columns on various platforms . This shows a range of judgments from “predictable street rap” to “even exceeded”.
The reception by the music media is also divided into two parts, ranging from “rap for weaning” to “very refreshing”.
“He has no interest in, no respect for, and certainly not a spark of love for art. Accordingly, he cannot contribute, has nothing to tell, as the track list, which cannot be surpassed in unimaginability, screams at you from afar. The shortest version comprises 18 titles, various other editions blow it up to double the length for the completely pain-free. The result, unsurprisingly (and if you want to call the same pressed screaming on homeopathically varied, powerful synth beats as such), rap to get used to. If I ever want to make a serious withdrawal attempt to get rid of hip hop, I now have an idea how that could work. 18 carat has the antidote. "
“The Dortmund gold mask wearer presents us with hard, unadorned street rap on 18 tracks. Of course, not every single track goes in the face like the singles FMFL 2.0 and Gangsta Gangsta . On tracks like I believe in you or This Path , 18 Karat strikes a more thoughtful note. [...] In times of a veritable flood of auto tune and trap rappers, a tough street album is very refreshing. At most, the lack of variety in terms of flow variations and the very similar sounding beats can be criticized and probably ensure that Pusha is not an album that you can listen to for months and in every mood.
