With the encyclical Quas vestro of April 30, 1841, Pope Gregory XVI turned. to the prelates of Hungary . The encyclical is subtitled "On mixed marriages ".

The Pope replied to a letter that the Bishop of Csamad had sent him. In it, he complained that more marriages between Catholics and non-Catholics were concluded without having been approved by the dispensation of the bishop. Gregory XVI. underlined the position of the Catholic Church , namely the prohibition of such marriages. He therefore referred to the encyclicals of his predecessors and the canonical provisions that would clearly prohibit such mixed marriages. In further remarks, the Pope praised the firmness of the bishops and called on them to stand up for the observance of Catholic marriages.

The Pope also urged priests and prelates to take precautionary measures so that attacks on the tenets of faith could be repulsed. He saw the danger that in a mixed marriage the common upbringing in the right faith could not be guaranteed, and that the spouses would behave sinfully.
