Coordinates: 26 ° 36 ′ S , 144 ° 15 ′ E The Shire of Quilpie is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Queensland . The area is 67,418 km² and has almost 810 inhabitants.
geography
The Shire is located in the southwest of the state on the border with New South Wales about 870 km west of the capital Brisbane .
The largest town and administrative seat of the LGA is Quilpie with about 570 inhabitants. Other localities are Adavale, Cheepie, Eromanga and Toompine .
history
Originally Adavale was the most important settlement in the region and a local administration was established there first. Because of the train station, the importance of Quilpie increased and in 1930 the administrative headquarters were moved there and the Shire was renamed.

The Quilpie Shire Council has five members. The Mayor and four other Councilors are elected by all residents of the Shire. The LGA is not divided into electoral districts.
