The transport Régionaux Neuchâtelois (TRN) - in the commercial register as TRN SA add - were a regional transportation company based in La Chaux-de-Fonds , in the Swiss canton of Neuchatel . The name was already used before to denote the operating group. On May 23, 2012, the company merged with Transports en commun de Neuchâtel et environs (TN) and now operates as Transports Publics Neuchâtelois under the transN logo and the official abbreviation TRN.

history

The TRN company was created in 1999 through the merger of three companies already operating in a joint venture, in which the canton held substantial shares. The railway companies “Compagnie des Chemins de fer des Montagnes Neuchâteloises ” (CMN) and “Compagnie du Chemin de fer Régional du Val-de-Travers ” (RVT), as well as the bus company “Compagnie des Transports du Val -de-Ruz »(VR) merged. These companies have been operating under the common name of Transports Régionaux Neuchâtelois since 1987. In 2005, the La Chaux-de-Fonds city bus company, the “Compagnie des Transports en commun, La Chaux-de-Fonds” (TC), was merged into the TRN, which in turn became the Le Locle city bus company “Autobus Le Locle (ALL) »had taken over.

business

Rail operations

The TRN rail operations go back to originally three rail companies, each with its own main line. The extremely heterogeneous routes measure a total of 34.06 km, of which 13.59 km in standard gauge and 20.47 km in meter gauge.

The steam friends of the Vapeur Val-de-Travers (VVT) association have their home in St-Sulpice ; in summer, steam trips are offered on the branch route to Fleurier and further on one weekend a month. In 2012, VVT took over the license and the Fleurier – St-Sulpice line from TRN.

The exchange of locomotives is common. The transition to the network of the CJ is also possible and is often done with the viewing control car (branch 21).

Bus operation

The bus division of TRN includes

  • the overland operation of the former Compagnie des Transports du Val-de-Ruz (VR);
  • the city bus operations of the Compagnie des Transports en commun, La Chaux-de-Fonds (TC), which was integrated in 2005, including the La Chaux-de-Fonds trolleybus ;
  • the Le Locle city bus company (formerly TC, formerly ALL) and
  • the bus company Val de Travers (formerly RVT).

Predecessor companies

From 1903 to 1948 VR operated the Les Hauts-Geneveys – Villiers tram , an 8.2 kilometer long, meter-gauge overland tram in the eponymous Val de Ruz . After it was discontinued , this tram was replaced by the Val de Ruz trolleybus , this overland operation existed until 1984. At that time, the VR became a pure diesel bus operation.

In 1897 the “Tramway de La Chaux-de-Fonds” (TC) started operations. The tram network in La Chaux-de-Fonds had a maximum extension of a good five kilometers. When the tram was discontinued in 1950, TC became a trolleybus and bus company. In contrast to the VR, the trolleybus could hold up; three trolleybus routes are operated.

Vehicle fleet

Due to the different gauges, the rolling stock is not interchangeable.

Time of the merger

At the time of the merger in 1999, the numbers 101, 102, 105, 106 and 107 of the railcars 101-107 of the former RVT were still in existence. Motor coaches 103 and 104 had already been sold, whereby in the new numbering grid (new 311-317), the number 313 was assigned to a motor coach purchased second-hand.

Meter gauge (ex CMN, PSC and RdB)

Main article: CMN vehicle fleet

The former as well as the current vehicle fleet of the meter - gauge railway lines Ponts – Sagne – Chaux-de-Fonds and Locle – Les Brenets is typical of a Swiss narrow-gauge railway company operating with little financial means. For reasons of cost and schedule, railcars and control cars had to be procured in Italy for electrification in 1950, which did not show any disadvantages. After a fundamental modernization, these vehicles still handle the traffic on the Le Locle – Les Brenets route.

It is noteworthy that two out of three steam locomotives and two passenger carriages of the Régional des Brenets have been preserved, which remain in a deep sleep in Les Brenets and in Chaulin near the Blonay-Chamby museum railway.
