The Solaris Trollino 18 is an 18-meter-long trolleybus type produced by the Polish company Solaris . The low-floor articulated vehicles are based on the Solaris Urbino 18 diesel bus model . The type designation Trollino is a suitcase word from Trolejbus (the Polish transcription for trolleybus) and Urbino. In the case of the electrical variant, a distinction is made between two sub-types, they differ according to the supplier of the electrical equipment:
- Trollino 18 T : Made entirely from Hungary
- Trollino 18 AC : Cegelec from the Czech Republic, AC stands for a drive with three-phase motors
description
The vehicles are optionally equipped with a diesel or battery auxiliary motor, which enables operation in the event of a power failure and during construction site operations. So far 119 vehicles of this type have been produced.
The Solaris Trollino 18 is visually almost identical to the Škoda 28 Tr , as both use the Solaris Urbino body as a basis.
In the MetroStyle variant , a more sloping front was installed and a roof paneling matching the design was attached. In this version, the front entrance door is only half the width.
The twelve trolleybuses delivered to the Barnimer Busgesellschaft from Eberswalde are equipped with batteries with which they can travel up to five kilometers without a contact wire; the pantograph can be removed and applied automatically; a recovery of braking energy into the power grid is possible.
The trolleybuses that have been in use at Stadtwerke Solingen since 2018 have a battery that allows a distance of up to 20 kilometers without a contact wire. When the batteries are fully charged, the excess capacity is fed into the power grid.
The finished trolleybuses cost around 800,000 euros, the original diesel version around 240,000 euros.
