Réjean Ducharme

Réjean Ducharme (born August 12, 1941 in Saint-Félix-de-Valois, Québec ; † August 21, 2017 in Montreal , Québec) was a Canadian writer and playwright .

Ducharme lived in seclusion in Montreal and has not been interested in the public since the publication of his first book in 1966. He also worked as a visual artist and created sculptures . A main theme of Ducharme's early works is the rejection and incomprehension of the adult world by children.

Ducharme's French edition of L'avalée des avalés was nominated for Le combat des livres , an author's competition organized by Radio Canada . The Canadian actress Sophie Cadieu gave the presentation and defense of this work - broadcast by Radio Canada in 2005. L'avalée des avalés won this competition. The book - the first work by an unknown author - was proposed as a candidate for the Prix ​​Goncourt .

In Jean-Claude Lauzon's film Léolo , Ducharmes L'avalée des avalés plays the real key role: one day a stray “tamer of verses” brings a book to Léolo's house: L'avalée des avalés .
