The Réserve écologique Samuel-Brisson is a protected area established in 1982 on an area of 790 hectares in the extreme south of the Canadian province of Québec , in the county of Le Haut-Saint-François .

It is located on the northeast flank of Mont Mégantic and is therefore in the vicinity of the Parc national there . Its task is to protect and represent the mountain ranges of the Appalachian Mountains , the hills around the Mégantic and two lakes, namely Lac Etchemin and Lac Squatec . The area is between 400 and 900  m above sea level. In two successive phases of glaciation, various moraines formed on the mountain and overlapped. The water carried part of the Tillit down into the valley, but further up, on the flatter sections, it remained.

In the lower-lying areas there is mainly deciduous forest, mixed forest above, and finally coniferous forest in the higher areas. While the yellow birch dominates further down, the balsam fir is added in the middle locations between 650 and 800  m above sea level . Above that, the yellow birch gives way to the paper birch . American red spruce , white spruce and paper birch dominate over 800  m . Two endangered species are protected here: Allium tricoccum , here called Oignon sauvage (wild onion) or Ail des bois (forest garlic), and Viola rotundifolia from the violet family .

The area is home to numerous other bird species for which the mountain range is known, the Bicknell's thrush .

The name of the area goes back to the botanist Samuel Brisson (1918–1982), who mainly examined the flora in the administrative region of Estrie , but was also active in Saguenay – Lac-Saint-Jean and in northern Québec. The Rolland-Germain Herbarium at the University of Sherbrooke became the third most important in the province for its activity.
