The Réserve écologique des Dunes-de-la-Moraine-d'Harricana is an ecological reserve in the south of the Canadian province of Québec , in the regional county municipality of Rouyn-Noranda .
It is located about 30 km southwest of Val-d'Or on the northern edge of the Baie Boston (Boston Bay) of the Réservoir Decelles des Ottawa . The reserve was established in 1994 on an area of 540 ha.
It protects and represents a complex of lakes, dunes and moors created in connection with a moraine , as well as the fir - yellow-birch forests typical of the Haut Saint-Maurice . The subsoil consists of granite and similar rocks from the early days of the Canadian Shield . The dunes were created along the Harricana moraine. Nevertheless, podsol , regosol and organic deposits have formed here, so that trees can also grow here. These are, for example, Banks pines ( called pin gris here ) that populate the dune ridges, or black spruce . In addition, there are peat mosses and heather plants in places where the water flows poorly or very poorly.
