The Réserve écologique du Ruisseau-de-l'Indien is an ecological reserve in the extreme southwest of the Canadian province of Québec , which was named after the small river that runs through it.

It was established in 1991 on an area of ​​324 hectares and is located in the northwest of the Outaouais administrative region , in the regional county town of Pontiac , on the north bank of the Ottawa .

It protects sugar maple forests mixed with yellow birch trees , which are typical of the Lac Pythonga ecoregion .

The hilly area on the Canadian Shield is between 250 and 500  meters above sea level. The subsoil consists of gneiss , quartzite and calcareous rock. Post-glacial floods have shaped the terraces of the India River.

Weymouth pine (called pin blanc) and red pine are strongly represented , followed by Populus grandidentata, a type of poplar that is only found in the northeastern United States and southeastern Canada, and finally American quivering aspen . On one sandy plateau site there is the Banks pine , called pin gris , and on another a silver maple forest.

Numerous other plants are associated with the various forest and soil types, such as the endangered Lathyrus ochroleucus from the legume family .

Glass eyeglasses can be found in the river . Also live northern map turtle , the toad Anaxyrus americanus , which in English as frog mink , in French as grenouille verte known frog Rana septentrionalis , and the bullfrog here Ouaouaron is, in greater numbers.

Archaeological studies have shown that the area was inhabited more than 4000 years ago.
