The Río Arque is one of the headwaters of the Río Caine , and thus the Río Grande in Bolivia .

course

The source rivers of the Río Arque arise in the Cordillera Quimsa Cruz ( Tres Cruces ). The main source river, the Río Taracachi, which is about 50 kilometers long, has its source as Quebrada Ticanoma on the western slope of Cerro Huaylluma , 50 kilometers northeast of the mining town of Oruro and 65 kilometers southwest of the city of Cochabamba and flows generally in a south-easterly direction. The other source river, the Río Tacopaya (initially called Incalacaya) generally flows westward. From the junction, the river valley faces northeast with slight turns. On the way through the province of Arque at kilometer 58 (from the source of the Ticanoma) lies the provincial capital Arque on the north bank of the river, at kilometer 72 Estancia Umani on the south bank, at kilometer 85 the town of Capinota on the north bank.

The catchment area of the Río Arque covers 2,224 km². At Capinota, the minimum flow of the Río Arque is 2 to 2.5 m³ / s. When the river swells during the rainy season from November to April, flow rates of up to 900 m³ / s can be reached in the century maximum. 6.7 m³ / s was calculated for the mean discharge. The dissolved sediments carried along can be up to 120 g / l during the rainy season and are red, yellow or dark brown, depending on the valley of origin of the water.

After a total of 88 kilometers, the Río Arque joins the Río Rocha at an altitude of 2,350 m above sea level and then bears the name Río Caine . The Caine River after an additional 162 kilometers in Rìo Grande over the 1,438 km below the source of Rìo Arque in the mamoré river flows.

Tributaries

The Río Arque gets its water from a tree-like (dendritic) branched river system. The major tributaries are from the right: Río Ballia, Río Chullmayu, Quebrada Huanu Wara, Quebrada Fundición and Quebrada Curamayu and from the left: Río Pichacani, Río Taracachi, Quebrada Muralani, Quebrada Millu Waykho, Quebrada Waca Wacaot and Quebrada.
